COVID-19: Swan Song for many print media outlets in India?



There is no news like bad news goes an old newsroom adage. The ensuing pandemic, is definitely one such global event that fits into this kind. It has generated readership and spiraling demand for information on Coronavirus with every new case being reported.

This should have been good news for the industry. Unfortunately however, the current opportunity has proved a double-edged sword for the already beleaguered industry, particularly in India.

The country-wide lockdown has thrown a spanner in the distribution lines while the fear of the virus has kept away readers even where newspapers are available. A high decibel campaign by leading publications on how safe the newspaper is does not seem to have helped.
